Pro-Duct CGF1 Flange System

European standards recommended the use of slide-on flange because of its strength, hollow double section and the ability to hide the L’ type corner pieces.
This motivated Firmac to design a system around the double, hollow type flange profile. In 1992 Firmac launched the Pro-Duct CGF1 Integral Flange Line which exceeds all the HVCA’s standards.
Looking at the plan layout of the Firmac system, one can see that the entire flow is in one straight line without the need for restricting transfer tables. This feature is an important consideration for saving floor space. Other manufacturers who use the ‘U’ or ‘Z’ configuration require much more space because of the change in directional flow with transfer tables - also they are limited to maximum length blanks because of the transfer tables, which in turn limit the size of a full box duct.
The straight line layout of the Firmac arrangement means that when making a large one-piece duct, for example 8m girth, the folding has begun at the leading end while the trailing end is still attached to the coil. This means that almost any size of duct can be produced in one piece, providing that extra hands are available to support the large box being formed.
The Pittsburgh Unit is the cross running type but, unlike any other manufacturer, the Firmac Pittsburgh slits and rolls the female pocket on the back end of one blank and the male 90 degree edge on the leading edge of the next blank - in one single pass.
The piece now travels through the 19 station Rollformer which is already cut to length, fully notched for seam and folded corners and with the male and female Pittsburgh seams formed on the leading and trailing edges. The parallel sides of the blank are formed into the 20mm or 30mm flanges by the Duplex Rollformer. The flange is complete by station 17 leaving two final stitching unit stations to stitch the flange back to the duct wall.
